House in a Box
Habitat for Humanity is doing what it does best--build houses for those who need them. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the organization is launching Operation Home Delivery. Through the program, Habitat will mass-produce "homes in a box," disassemble them, and ship them to areas that will need massive rebuilding efforts along the coast. Volunteers will then reassemble the homes onsite.
The program will be piloted in Jackson, Mississippi. Plans call for the project to get underway after the initial response and recovery missions of the rescue workers are complete and rebuilding has begun.
